Manchester United are reportedly preparing to open negotiations with Brentford for the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, after the winger made it clear he prefers a move to Old Trafford over other Premier League rivals.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian forward has become a priority for United manager Ruben Amorim following a standout season in which he scored 20 goals and provided eight assists. Mbeumo's versatility operating from the right flank, centrally, or even as a false nine adds to his appeal as United look to reshape an attack that produced just 44 league goals in the 2024/25 campaign.
Mbeumo’s numbers are impressive on paper, but they’re backed by performances in big moments. In Brentford’s 2–0 away win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, he scored and set up another, slicing through Chelsea’s backline with precision. Against Aston Villa, he netted twice in a dramatic 3–2 win, showcasing sharp movement and clinical finishing. Even in Brentford’s 1–1 draw with Arsenal, Mbeumo caused havoc, completing five dribbles, creating three chances, and testing the Gunners' backline throughout.
While clubs such as Arsenal and Newcastle have also shown strong interest, Mbeumo is understood to favour a move to Manchester United, a preference that could prove decisive in upcoming talks. Brentford have reportedly set a valuation of £50 million, with the winger still under contract until 2026, plus an option for a further year.
Thomas Frank has hinted that the club would be willing to negotiate if a serious offer arrives, and United are believed to be ready to match that valuation. Mbeumo's intention to join United could give them a crucial edge in what’s likely to be a competitive race.
This potential signing aligns with Amorim’s wider push to inject intelligence and productivity into United’s attack. The club has already moved to sign Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Mbeumo, with his directness and end product, would complement that setup well.
Mbeumo wasn’t just Brentford’s top scorer, he was involved in 40% of their league goals, had a shot conversion rate of 21.7%, and averaged 2.1 key passes per game. That profile, combined with his hunger for the next step, makes this move more than a rumour, it’s a strategic fit for both player and club.
