A political rift is deepening in Kaduna State as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mamman Lagos, has pushed back against former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s assertion that he could influence the outcome of the 2027 elections.
Lagos, a close ally of incumbent Governor Uba Sani, dismissed El-Rufai’s claims, insisting that electoral results are determined by a higher power, not individuals.
He also cautioned the former governor against meddling in the state's governance, arguing that El-Rufai faced no interference when he held positions at the Bureau for Public Enterprises, the Federal Capital Territory ministry, and as Kaduna’s leader.
“Our governor remained focused on legislative work during the previous administration, never interfering in the state’s affairs,” Lagos said. “We see no reason why he should now be distracted by someone who believes they alone hold the power to make or break others.”
