Simon Adingra to Sunderland: A Fresh Start or Another Detour?

By Fakorede King Abdulmajeed | Fuxma Media | July 9, 2025

Simon Adingra’s career is about to take another sharp turn. The Ivorian winger is closing in on a surprising move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Sunderland, with the total package valued at €24 million—€21 million up front and €3 million in add-ons.

Personal terms? Agreed. Medical? On the way. Sunderland, it seems, aren’t here to make up the numbers next season.

Keith Downie of Sky Sports first broke the news, and from all indications, Sunderland mean business in this transfer window. The Black Cats have identified Adingra as a key piece in their push to build a more dynamic attacking unit.

For Adingra, this is yet another chapter in a career that has promised so much yet remains a work in progress. Since moving to Brighton from Danish side Nordsjælland in 2022, the 22-year-old has dazzled in moments but struggled for consistency and regular minutes. In flashes, his pace and sharp footwork reminded fans why Brighton took a chance on him. But with Brighton's stacked attacking options, breaking through week in, week out proved difficult.

Now, Sunderland offers something different: a project where Adingra can be the main man rather than a supporting act. With the club’s clear promotion ambitions, this move could either launch him into stardom or leave him searching for answers yet again.

The deal should be wrapped up in the coming hours, pending medical checks and final paperwork. Brighton, as expected, have stayed silent. Sunderland? Focused on getting the deal over the line.

But here's the real question: Will this be the move where Simon Adingra finally finds his rhythm and consistency? Or are we watching yet another talented African winger lost in the shuffle of European football?

Time, as always, will give us the answers.
